Open Source Has Time on Its Side

Open Source is at risk - proprietary models are making money using open source codebases. Nothing new.

Reality check, Software and Productivity is now gated by closed source companies, this affects companies running on a budget - not every company or individual in the world can afford $200 / mo subscriptions.

Today, there isn’t a single technology ecosystem in the world that doesn’t rely on Open Source Software.

While Open Source Models are trending to outperform Closed Source Models, there’s only one thing to wait for: Moore’s Law.

For those who haven’t heard of this before “More’s Law is the observation that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit (IC) doubles about every two years” (wikipedia).

TL;DR compute power doubles every two years.

There’s one thing that Open Source doesn’t have and that’s money, but it has something much more powerful… TIME.

Time will enable Open Source Models to outperform Closed Source Models as Open Source Software has historically outperformed Closed Source Software.

More’s Law will enable every single device in the world to run ANYTHING that has the shape of a binary and executes instructions.

We only need time.
